Even the most organized people among us tend to forget things sometimes. Life is buisy and moving can be a demanding task. A Dependable Moving understands the situation. We help a lot of people move each year and we are experiencing  the move with our customers. Because of this, we have created the list below as an additional tool to help you organize your move. 

Plants and Pets:

Remember, when moving out of state, plants and pets cannot be safely transported.  Make sure you have arranged proper solutions and transportation for your pets and plants. 


DVDs, books, and dry cleaning:

Items such as these are easily forgotten and can be a hassle to return or to get back. Call your local DVD store, library, dry


Records/ Important Papers:

 Issuing and Obtaining medical and educational records in very important- especially moving to another state .


Hidden Jewelry and Valuables:

Who  among us has not buried and stashed away, money jewelry and valuable items. Prior to your move, dig up all hidden treasures and valuables. If you can deposit them with your bank than do so. Make sure you have items you have to take with you secured at all times until you have reached your new residence.


Garage Door Opener:

 Most people will forget to take the garage door opener out of their car/and/or leave it with the realtor for the new owner.  


Keys:

Make sure you have collected all spare keys and electronic openers from family members, neighbor and relatives. Typically, the realtor will deliver them to the new owner. In some cases the owner will pick them up himself.

 
Cleaning After the Move:

 If you plan on doing the cleaning of the residence yourself make sure you set aside cleaning equipment such as a vacuum, rags, broom, bucket, etc.

Waterbed Mattresses:

Drain all water from the waterbed and, grasping internal baffle systems with external vinyl, fold mattresses 20 inches at a time. Adjust folds to avoid making creases across individual baffles. Consult your owners manual for special instructions concerning the care and transportation of your mattress. Do not place your mattress in a carton with sharp or pointed objects. Car and Motorcycles:

Cars and Motorcycles shipped on the moving van should be drained nearly empty of fuel. Motorcycle batteries should be disconnected. Automobile anti freeze should be able to protect against severe cold in the winter. 

Barbecue Grills and Propane Tanks:

Wrap grates and briquets separately in a newspaper ( or place all briquets into a grocery bag) and place parts in canton. Pad carton with paper to reduce movement of contents. Even if propane tanks are drained before your move, we will not be able to move this item for you. Consult your local gas grill distributer for the safest method. 

Silverware:

 Wrap each piece in cloth or low sulphur content paper to prevent scratching the silverware chest.

Tools:

 Drain fuel from power tools ( do not ship Flammables under any circumstances). Pack tools in small, strong cartons. Wrap separately if valuable.

Lamps and Landshades:

remove bulbs, harps and shades. Roll up cord. Pack lamps with bedding or wrap separately ad place uptight in clean, tissue lined carton. Wrap harp and finial of carton that contains shade. Wrap shades in tissue, not newspaper. Place upright in large, tissue lined cartons.

Medicine:

 Seal caps with masking tape Wrap and pack upright in small cartons. If needed during travel, carry with you.


Mirrors, painting and Pictures:

Take you're agent about vulnerable painting and for special care. Wrap small mirrors, pictures, paintings, and frames and place on edge in cartons. Place large pictures and paintings on edge  in heavy cardboard containers. Large wall or dresser mirrors will be taken down by the movers and placed in special cartons. For added safety, place tape diagonally across mirror to protect better against damage. Do not place newspaper directly against paintings.

Personal Computers and Video Recorders:

Pack Valuable electronic equipment in original cartons when available otherwise, use strong, corrugated cartons  and place glasses and stemware toward the top of your box. Heavier items ( dicer , pitchers, etc.) should be placed toward the bottom of the box. Delicate glassware and stemware should be placed in a upright position, not on its side. 


BUREAU DRAWERS:
 DONT OVERLOAD. TOO HEAVY A LOAD CAN CAUSE DAMAGE. REMOVE FIREARMS AND ANY ITEMS THAT MIGHT BREAK OR LEAK. FIREARMS.


 PADDING ON THE BOTTOM OF THE CARTON. WRAP AN OLD BLANKET OR PROTECTIVE PAD AROUND THE ITEM AND PLACE IT IN ITS CARTON. PLACE ADDITIONAL PADDING BETWEEN THE CARTON  AND THE COMPUTER OR VIDEO RECORDER. WRAP CORDS SEPARATELY, LABEL TO IDENTIFY,  USAGE AND PLACE  IN A PLASTIC BAG AWAY FROM DELICATE SURFACES. NON- DETACHABLE CORDS SHOULD ALSO BE WRAPPED. PLACE CORDS BETWEEN THE PADDED COMPUTER OR VIDEO RECORDER AND THE CARTON. BE SURE YOUR PERSONAL COMPUTER IS “PARKED” AND READY FRO TRANSPORT. 
No matter what your packing, you should use crumpled packing paper in between each layer to assure a snug fit wherever there a gap. All boxes with “fragile” items should be marked accordingly.

The Day of the Move:

-Take a last tour around the premises to look for any item that have been left behind. Then you can sign the inventory list and get a copy.


- It is important that you leave the phone service working on the day of the move.

 
- make sure that all remaining electrical and gas related appliances have been shut off.
